ST. JOHN'S CHURCH

St. John's Church - Creighton Campus

A $10,000 donation from John A. Creighton helped start the $45,000 church. St. John’s Gothic Revival structure was designed by P.J. Creedon of Omaha. Another $5,600 gift from John McShane of the Union Stockyards purchased the marble altar. This view looking northwest from California Street shows the original church faced with sandstone and Bedford stone. I t seated 500 worshippers. The smaller tower on the left was the only one finished. The second larger tower received its spire 90 years later! A $40,000 expansion project in 1922-23 doubled the seating capacity and added a rectory. Omaha officials designated St. John’s a historic landmark in 1981.
